TYAJU-NO-MUKASHI
Introduction of "TYAJU-NO-MUKASHI"

“TYAJU-NO-MUKASHI” is the highest-grade ceremonial matcha produced by Yamamasa Koyamaen.

It is crafted using premium tencha from Kyoto—leaves that have been showcased at tea fairs or selected from gardens of equivalent quality.

Production is extremely limited, with only a few dozen kilograms available each year, making it one of the rarest matcha offerings. Its umami, aroma, and depth of flavor are unmatched.

Yamamasa Koyamaen, Uji Kyoto Yamamasa Koyamaen – a long-established matcha producer in Uji, Kyoto
YAMAMASA-KOYAMAEN is a historic matcha producer in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture—the birthplace of premium matcha since the early Edo period.
With deep trust in the tea ceremony world, the brand is known for its elegance, balance, and high quality.

High-quality tea leaves from Uji High-quality tea leaves grown in the rich soil of Uji, Kyoto
Tea plants are shaded for about 20 days before harvest, using reed screens and straw. This traditional cultivation method produces the deep umami, bright color, and rich aroma characteristic of premium Uji matcha.
Freshly picked leaves are steamed, dried, and processed into tencha, then stored at low temperature (around 10°C) for aging until stone-milled into matcha.

Traditional stone mill technology Traditional stone mills in a modern hygienic facility
Even with modern machinery advances, stone milling remains the gold standard for producing the finest matcha texture.
Koyamaen combines time-honored craftsmanship with modern quality control, resulting in a powder that is exceptionally fine and smooth.

Matcha sieve About matcha lumps
Sometimes small lumps may form due to static electricity—this is not a quality issue.
For a smooth bowl of tea, we recommend sifting the powder before use.

matcha Matcha is a Japanese superfood
Matcha is rich in antioxidants, catechins, tannins, and vitamins—supporting fat burning, skin health, and overall wellness.
As matcha uses the entire tea leaf, you receive 100% of its nutritional benefits.

This was a blind buy, I’d heard this brand was great but the formulation I was looking for was completely sold out. So I decided to give this a try. While incredibly expensive, this matcha powder is delicious- so smooth and creamy and subtle in complexity and not over powering. Definitely a special occasion to have it, I can’t say I can afford for us to drink it every day.
