About Chasho Rokubei

Chasho Rokubei was founded in 1818 in Uji, Kyoto, making it one of Japan’s long-established matcha tea houses. With over 200 years of heritage, Rokubei sources selected tencha and stone-grinds it to create a precise balance of umami, aroma, and color.

Alongside classic Uji ceremonial matcha, Rokubei also offers organically grown matcha from Kagoshima in southern Japan. Uji tends to show deeper, layered umami, while Kagoshima brings a brighter, fresher character with mellow sweetness.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Rokubei’s Uji and Kagoshima matcha?
Rokubei’s Uji matcha reflects the classic Uji style: deep, layered umami and refined aroma. The Kagoshima matcha has a brighter color, fresher aroma, and mellow umami shaped by southern Japan’s warm climate.
Is Rokubei matcha organic?
The Kagoshima range is organic, and SUIUN is the organic Uji option. Other Uji grades focus on traditional ceremonial quality.
Which Rokubei matcha should I start with?
For a classic Uji experience, start with ICHIGO-ICHIE or MURASAKINO. If you prefer organic matcha with a lighter, fresher profile, ASANOKA from Kagoshima is a good starting point.
