Premium Yame Hoshino Gyokuro
YAME GYOKURO UZUKI
UZUKI is a higher-grade Gyokuro from Hoshino Village in Yame, crafted for a deeper and more luxurious shaded-tea experience. It offers concentrated umami, elegant sweetness, and a smooth finish with very little bitterness.
A Deeper Yame Gyokuro Experience
UZUKI is positioned above YAYOI in the Yame Hoshino Gyokuro lineup. It is ideal for customers who want a richer, more concentrated Gyokuro taste with pronounced umami and refined sweetness.
Brewed slowly at a lower temperature, UZUKI reveals a soft, almost broth-like depth with a smooth mouthfeel. This is a tea to enjoy slowly, especially when you want a more premium Japanese tea experience.
Tasting Profile
- Deep, concentrated umami
- Elegant sweetness and rich shaded-tea aroma
- Very low bitterness and astringency
- Smooth, rounded mouthfeel
- Best for slow tasting and special tea moments
Which Size Should You Choose?
Recommended if you want to compare UZUKI with YAYOI or try a higher-grade Yame Gyokuro before choosing a larger pack.
Best for Gyokuro lovers who want to enjoy deep umami regularly and get better value from a larger size.
How to Brew Gyokuro
Gyokuro is best brewed slowly with lower-temperature water. This helps bring out its deep umami, soft sweetness, and smooth texture.
Use about 6g of Gyokuro leaves, roughly 3 teaspoons, in a small teapot.
Pour water cooled to about 50–60°C / 122–140°F and steep for about 2 minutes.
Pour little by little into the cup to enjoy the concentrated umami and aroma.
For an even sweeter taste, UZUKI can also be brewed slowly with cold water.
What is Gyokuro?
Gyokuro is considered one of the finest types of Japanese green tea. In Japan, it is often associated with special occasions, important guests, and quiet moments of appreciation.
Before harvest, Gyokuro tea plants are shaded from sunlight. This process helps preserve theanine, an amino acid associated with umami and sweetness, while reducing sharp bitterness.
Yame Hoshino: A Famous Region for Gyokuro
Yame, especially Hoshino Village, is widely known in Japan for high-quality Gyokuro. The region’s mountain climate, temperature differences, and frequent mist help create ideal conditions for shaded tea cultivation.
The result is a tea with deep green color, rich umami, and a smooth, elegant taste.
Sencha vs. Gyokuro: What’s the Difference?
The biggest difference between sencha and gyokuro is how the tea leaves are grown. Gyokuro is shaded before harvest, which creates deeper umami and smoother sweetness. Sencha is grown with more sunlight, giving it a brighter aroma and a refreshing balance.
You want a refreshing Japanese green tea that is easy to enjoy every day. Sencha is clean, aromatic, and versatile.
You want deeper umami, a smoother mouthfeel, and a more luxurious tea experience. Gyokuro is best enjoyed slowly.
